THREE BUCK
CHUCK
I have been wanting to place a cache in this area for a while now.
It’s a beautiful little rolling valley on the backside of the
popular lookout ridge. It’s a great place for deer watching. In
fact the day I put out this cache, I saw 4 nice bucks. Ah, but you
say, then why name it Three Buck? Shortly after arriving in this
quite little valley, two nice bucks strolled into view and grazed
for about 10 minutes before me. I instantly thought of calling the
cache Two Buck Chuck after the Santa Cruz favorite Charles Shaw
wine. Just then another buck strolled into view. My picture taking
finally drove them off and I wandered off to my cache location to
prepare the cache. Just after I had scrawled Three Buck Chuck all
over everything another big buck inadvertently walked into my area.
I sat very still. He was about 3 or 4 feet away when he finally
noticed me. Startled, he very nearly jumped right over me. That got
my heart going!
The
Cache
The cache is an ammo can chock full of pretty decent swag. For the
First To Find I have made a donation to WomanCARE. It’s a great
organization and it keeps all of the donation money in Santa Cruz.
There is a Pink Duckie representative of that donation and a FTF
trophy.

Getting
There
The best bet for parking is at the main parking lot at Wilder
Ranch
State Park, especially if you plan to be out for a while. It’s
safe
and it supports the park system. From there walk to the farm
then
under the walking ‘underpass’ out into the inland side of
Wilder. The Wilder Ridge Loop will take you to the Twin Oaks
Trail.
Alternately, there is a little 5 or 6 car parking space at the
bottom of the southern leg of the Baldwin Loop trail on Highway 1
(N 36° 58.165 W 122° 06.996). Take Baldwin to Enchanted to Twin
Oaks.
Although the cache is a bit off of the main trail there is no need
to bush-wack. There are two very nice game trails that lead to the
cache area. Both come off of the Twin Oaks Trail and can be found
at N 36° 59.222 W 122° 05.720 and N 36° 59.230 W 122° 05.754
Congrats to
Kealia for the FTF.... and thanks for posting a pic!
