Geocache Description:

This CITO Event is brought to you by the Members of: GeocacheAlaska!

Working hard to promote Geocaching in Alaska! Please join us today!

Saturday, April 25th at 9:45AM in Girdwood!

Join us to make a dent in a winter's worth of trash along our official 2-mile section of the Seward Highway in Girdwood. GeocacheAlaska! has pledged to clean this section of highway at least 3 times per year under the Alaska DOT Adopt-A-Highway program. Celebrate International Cache In Trash Out weekend and earn a special souvenir from Groundspeak for participation in a CITO Event. Thanks to the mild winter we've experienced the highway shoulders are virtually snow-free (and despite occasional spring snow squalls will remain so), ready for the first of our three cleanups of the not-winter season along our section of this gorgeous National Scenic Byway.

Meet at the highway pullout by 9:45am to sign in, register for door prizes, and get a safety briefing. We will spend about an hour picking up any and all trash along the highway, meeting again at about 11am to consolidate the trash for a photo-op and then draw for door prizes (must be present to win).

This CITO site requires that we have a tail-gate safety meeting prior to starting and that everyone wear a safety-vest while working along the roadway. It is also highly recommended that everyone wear safety glasses, gloves, and durable boots at this site. We'll have disposable gloves, bags, and safety vests for your use. Bring a raincoat or wind gear in case the weather's not its friendliest. Per DOT rules, no children under 11 years old or dogs are allowed to participate in the cleanup.
