Mt. Prevost Summit Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Wizard of Ooze: Hello,
I’m a volunteer reviewer for geocaching.com. In a routine check of area caches, I see that one or more of your waypoints has been missing for an extended period of time. The geocaching guidelines include a section on disabled caches: http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#cachemaintenance

You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to ensure it is in proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.), or posts a Needs Maintenance log. Temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have addressed the problem. You are permitted a reasonable amount of time – generally up to 4 weeks – in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing. If you decide not to replace a missing cache, please archive the listing.

Since your account is listed as inactive with no way to contact you directly, I’ve archived your listing to make way for new, active caches to be placed. If you would like to resubmit a new cache at the location, please feel free to do so and it will be reviewed according to the current geocaching guidelines.

Thank you for your contribution to geocaching,

Geocache Description:

Around the Summit of Mt. Prevost, in the North Cowichan Valley. Spectacular views.

At 794 metres, Mount Prevost is one of the higher peaks in the North Cowichan area. With Mt. Sicker to the North, Duncan and the Cowichan Valley to the South, and Lake Cowichan to the West, this peak commands a powerful view from the Saanich Peninsula to Chemainus.

Mt. Prevost is a 3 part Multi-cache, designed to show you 3 different views from around the summit. It is not meant to be difficult in any sense,  and is rated 3 for difficulty only because it is a multi-cache. You may find that you may be backtracking, but this is to show you the view to the Northwest, East, South and Southwest. Each site has a different view.

Access is via Herd Road, (Highway 18) and Mt. Prevost Road. You are faced with an 7.5 kilometer uphill drive or hike, depending on whether Fire Season closes the gates. My hike up to the site was about 90 minutes in length. Please be careful at each of the sites, as any fall here is fatal. Cliffs are very close to each site, but you may travel an excellent trail between each site, away from the cliffs. The fire gates are usually open between October and May, and will allow an easy drive up. Park at N 48.49.928, W 123.45.953. The cache is designed to return you to this spot upon completion.

Enjoy.
