Original Hindmarsh Island school
The Hindmarsh Island School House (circa 1850) was in use until the 1950's.
The property had been left derelict for many years after the school closed and since then had been occasionally used for election voting, a local meeting venue and of course Bingo!
It was given a new lease of life in 2002. when it was purchased from the Alexandrina Council and then sold to private enterprise.
It was lovingly restored and opened as Boccabella cafe and restuarant.
That closed several years ago and the old school house again is unused and vacant. It was a good cafe when it was open. Shame the owners haven't sold the building on or at least taken down the cafe signage.
The Hindmarsh Island Cheese factory is the white building near the school and was in use from the early 1900's. Currently it is used as an art school.
