Geocache Description:

The road that winds down from Jebel Rawdah into Oman has a number of wadis crossing it. It is fun to drive into these to see what you can find. If you choose to drive into this one you may be able to find our cache which holds, amongst other things, a set of Rubik’s cubes. You will need a 4x4 to do this. It is not a difficult drive but take care over some of the rocky sections. If you even remotely suspect that it may rain somewhere in the region do not enter the wadi. Flash floods are very common and catch a number of people out on a regular basis.

To make this a bit different we thought that we would make it a puzzle cache. You will first need to find the puzzle box. This is hidden at the published co-ordinates.

Leave the road and enter the wadi at N 24°44.484' E055°56.989'

From here follow the wadi bed along to the puzzle box. This holds the instructions to find the cache…. but you will first have to work out how to read them…..

The parking place for the cache is also in the wadi bed. The puzzle box and the cache are hidden in holes in the rocks. We’ve placed loose rocks in front of them to hide them from view. You will need to make a short climb out of the wadi bed to retrieve them. The climbs are not difficult, most people should be able to manage them but do take care and watch your kids. Another word of warning, we hid this around midday in May and the rocks were extremely hot. It may be prudent to wear some gloves.

As with most caches hidden in the desert or mountains of the Gulf, beware of what wildlife may also be hiding with the cache.

Hints

Please don’t give away any help in solving the puzzle in your log for this cache. We have provided a “solution sheet” in the cache so that you can make obscure comments that only other finders will understand.

UAE Based Cachers

If you are approaching from Dubai you can cross the boarder just south of Jebel Rawdah. At the time of writing this was a perfunctory check of your driving license but this may change over time. If you are coming from Al Ain you can cross the boarder at Buraymi. Again, at the time of writing, this was just a cursory glance at passports. No visas are currently required.

Desert Challenge

This is the Blue Key for the Desert Challenge (GC13B15). The eight digit key is written on the cache box and in the log book. There is also a set of key fobs with the number written on them. Feel free to take one but leave the rest for subsequent finders. Please do not publish the key on the web.
