Geocache Description:

This is an excellent viewpoint overlooking the South Fork of the Walla Walla River.

McIntyre Point was home to a ground-mounted L-4 fire lookout cabin from 1931 through 1964. Surprisingly even the newest Umatilla National Forest recreation map lists "McIntyre Lookout" here, despite it having departed over 4 decades ago.

The 180 degree view includes Black Mtn. to the south, Weston Mountain to the west, Milton-Freewater and Walla Walla to the northwest, and Blalock Mtn. to the north.

The best access is from Highway 204 just east of the Tollgate Store. Turn onto McIntyre Road and follow it to the cache. The road can be muddy at times and is rocky in places. Winter will require alternate transportation (it is located on a well-marked snowmobile route). You can also get here from the east via the road leading past Target Meadows Campground.
