The cache is situated in St Abbs, perched on the cliff edge overlooking the picturesque harbour. St. Abbs lies at the heart of the St. Abbs and Eyemouth Marine Reserve, and this charming fishing village is often considered the jewel of the Berwickshire Coast.
I recommend starting your visit from the car park overlooking the harbour, which has the added benefit of being free. Once parked, take a leisurely stroll through the village of St. Abbs. Be sure to visit the harbour to watch the fishing boats and perhaps enjoy a meal at Ebb Carr Cafe.
The view from the cache site is iconic, having appeared on countless postcards, as well as the cover of the "People's Friend" magazine and the Ordnance Survey "Explorer" map. St. Abbs has also served as a filming location, featured in the film "Women Talking Dirty" starring Helena Bonham Carter, an episode of "Taggart" starring Billy Boyd, who later played Pippin in The Lord of the Rings, and more recently as "New Asgard" in Avengers: Endgame and in Harry Styles' music video for "Adore You."
Nearby, you'll notice a white post that once held a flagpole used to signal the lifeboat—a small piece of the area's maritime history.
Although it’s possible to drive and park very close to the cache site, I’ve deliberately left out those details, as walking through this enchanting village is part of the experience. So, don’t miss out!
When you leave, please ensure the cache is well concealed beneath the stones. And don't worry about the residents of the nearby houses—they're quite friendly!
