Geocache Description:

An event featuring four traditional caches and one multi-cache, with three virtual caches along the way. Dinner meeting and prizes at the conclusion of the event.

Geocache Poker Run

To be held March 13th 2004.

ATTENTION: DINNER MEETING AND PRIZE DISTRIBUTION HAS BEEN CHANGED TO EL SERAPE 2 ON COOPER POINT ROAD ABOUT 1/4 MILE SOUTH OF RED ROBIN, AT 6:00 PM!!

Caches will be listed online March 11th.

The caches to note are:
1) Tumwater Bridge Walk Micro Kids Cache
2) Black Lake Grange Trail
3) Road Going Nowhere
4) Delphi School
5) It's all in the Tree (Mulit cache)

The lowdown on the event is as follows:

4 Traditional caches worth 1 card each. Each traditional cache will have a code word taped to the lid of the cache. Each cache will be registered and approved by Geocache.com.

1 Multi cache worth one card. The final cache will have a code word taped to the lid. This will be a three stage multi cache registered and approved by Geocache.com.

Three virtual caches will be on or near the traditional caches. There will be a question to be answered for each virtual cache. If all three are answered correctly, an additional card will be rewarded. The virtual caches are for this event only and will not count as "finds" with Geocache.com. The virtual caches will be handed out at morning signup, along with rough driving directions to each.

For each found code word a regular playing card will be rewarded, Cards will be marked with participants geo name so they cannot be traded. If all 6 caches are completed, then participant will recieve 6 cards, able to discard one. The participant with the best poker hand at the end of the allotted time will win first prize.

We will meet at Yauger Park before 11:30 Am and depart by Noon. The amount of time allowed will be established before event, in plenty of time to plan ahead. We will try to keep it reasonable, between 4-5 hours. Plenty of time to make it worth coming, but not so long that it means an overnight stay on Friday or Saturday for those from out of town. The final scoring area will be at El Serape 2 on Cooper Point RD about 1/4 mile south of Red Robin since Red Robin will not accomodate a group of our size, unless we are spread out all over the restaurant. We will meet for dinner, refreshments, scoring and prize distribution at 6:00 pm.

Prizes for adults will range from Geocaching T-shirts and hats to other Geocaching items, all purchased from Geocaching.com. Toys and Geocaching items will be available for children. Dog biscuits will be awarded for our furry friends, but they will not be allowed to draw cards or compete with adults for prizes. We all know how that works. The dogs always win all the good stuff. Then they just eat it.

There will be a $5.00 entry fee. The money will only go to offset the cost of the prizes. Any money taken in that is more than the amount spent on prizes will go along with the silver spike travel bug to whoever will host the next event. There will be no charge for children.

In the event of any ties, a Geocoin will be flipped to decide the tiebreaker.

There should be plenty of time to find all of the caches as well as time to find others in the area that are not part of the event.

The caches (excluding the virtual cache) will be listed a few days before the event so they can be planned and mapped. However, the codes will not be in the caches until the morning of the event. All caches will be new between now and the event. The caches will come on-line Thursday March 11th.

The logbooks will not be in the caches until the morning right before the event, so anyone not involved with the event may actually be able to find the caches, but will not be able to record their find. First to find will not count until the day after the event, and only for cachers not involved in the event. (This idea taken from the Phatboyz...Thanks for the idea.)

Driving directions: from I-5 take Highway 101 west to Black Lake Blvd/Capital Mall exit. Turn right at end of offramp. Take first left onto Cooper Point RD. Turn left at second stoplight onto Capital Mall Drive. Go straight about 250 yards, then turn right at sign for Apple park apartments/Yauger Park. We will meet in the covered area next to the playground by the back parking lot.

Finally, we will be creating a cache for the event to be placed after the event is over. If you have an idea for an item to be placed in the cache, bring it along. It will be a normal ammo can cache to be placed near yauger park.

Looking forward to seeing you all!!
