This replaces our archived “Creative Cache”. The container is a 30 caliber ammo can with the typical camo paint job. Original contents are: 2 geochips, RR spike, mini notebook, toy car, batteries, water spray fan, calculator, puzzle, lock, & park maps. Container is pretty packed right now.
We parked where the Highlands Trail crosses Sparta Mountain Rd at around 41º01.518’, 074º33.766. NOTE 1: There are “No Trespassing” signs all along the north side of Sparta Mountain Rd (there is even a sign right where the trail crosses the road) – hiking is LEGAL on the trail – no need to worry, just begin where the trail intersects the road. NOTE 2: There is Poison Ivy along the trail and at the cache location, so exercise caution. The actual hiding spot is pretty much Poison Ivy free. Our round trip was about 2.5 miles but almost the entire hike is along the clearly marked trail – just some bushwhacking at the end. The container should be re-hidden so nothing is exposed. The cheater will really narrow down the potential hiding spots.
