UPDATE
The 'official' event photo will at 14:00, followed by cake
cutting (if we get one in time!) and general fun and
frivolities.
Groundspeak have suggested that cachers might want to be
'festive' - whatever that means - but silly party hats and the like
would be most welcome!
We will be on site until about 5pm I guess, and the event is
loggable at any time - you don't have to be there at 2pm.
There are two large, free car parks on Epsom Downs (one of
the reasons we chose it). One is almost at the top coords, and you
drive into the racecourse to get to it!
Keep your fingers crossed for the weather, as this event to
celebrate 10 years of geocaching is on Epsom Downs! We will be here
from 11am onwards, so bring a picnic, kites, model planes,
frisbees, dogs, tennis balls and geokids - everyone is welcome!
There are two rail stations very near, and plenty of FREE parking.
There are also pubs, and an excellent circular walk of 14 caches,
plus extras!
On 1st May 2000, the US Government turned off Selective
Availability (SA). In doing so, the Global Positioning System was
opened up to the world, as GPS receivers became accurate to 10
metres or less. Two days later, May 3rd 2000, Dave Ulmer hid the
first stash, just outside Portland, Oregon It was FTF'd the day
after!
The first cache in Europe was Europe's
First and is still in place. Unfortunately, the first cache in
England England's
First is now archived, but Goldpot is hosting an event to
commemorate it next week!
