ABOUT THIS
SERIES:
Welcome to the Clear Lake
Paddle Series. This 12 cache series is designed so that the
caches would be obtained, primarily, by paddling (kayak, canoe,
raft, etc.). Of course, there may be other ways to get to the
cache. We leave that to you. We hope that other cachers will
contribute to this paddle series or start their own in other nearby
areas.
Sound like fun? It should be! But before you attempt
this series, please consider the
following:
- You will get wet, and
possibly soaked, while doing this
series.
- Bring a couple gallon-sized
ziplock baggies -- one for your GPSr (easy to operate in a large
bag), one for your camera and phone, and one for anything else you
don't want to get wet. Trap a little air in them and they float
should they fall out of the boat.
- Bring
sunscreen!
- Bring a hat - especially in
summer.
- Bring lots of bottled
water!
- Wear a PFD /
Lifejacket.
- Bring your camera... but
don't drop it!
- Bring your cell phone...
just in case.
- No motors are allowed in
Armand Bayou from GPS marker #4 upstream through trail marker #26
(and various other places off the lake - should this series expand
from others).
There are no geocaching.com attributes for
alligators. Watch out for alligators! They are out there...
somewhere. DO NOT FEED or pester the alligators - you could get in
trouble in more ways than one. See the photos on each of the CLAPS
cache pages.
Contact me through my geocaching.com profile if you
need ideas on how to get paddling to get these
caches.
ABOUT THIS CACHE:
Now - THIS IS THE BONUS
CACHE. Six of the caches in this series (#01 - #12) have a
number written under the lid and on the side of the cache near the
lid, and clearly written on the top of the logs as well. Collect
them all, and note both the cache series number and the number
under the lid/side/top of log. The bonus cache is located at N 29
33.ABC, W 095 03.DEF, where A is the number in the lid of the
lowest number cache in the series, and F is the number in the lid
of the highest number cache in the series. Note - this series has
more than 6 caches, so you’ll have to pay attention.
We’re not saying which they’re
under.
This cache is located on
private property and is placed with the permission of the owner.
The property owner only asks that you please be respectful an do
not try for this cache after dark. It's ok to go looking for it
during the daytime if the area is closed, though! About the
difficulty/terrain rating: the actual cache itself is located at a
place with a very low difficulty and terrain, but to get it you
have to go through a lot of work to get the other caches. Thus the
star ratings reflect the effort of everything you have to do to get
this. Don't cheat -- go paddle!
The cache is started off with
a FTF prize, an unactivated Necessity (Eat, Sleep, Cache) travel
tag, trackable on geocaching.com, some geocoins I need to set free
in the wild and/or move along, and some other really cool swag -
including NASA pins, Geocaching pins, carabiners, cache containers,
and more. I have also placed some of my Jeep pathtags in there, and
twisted ggmorton's arm to put in a few of his cool tags in there,
too.
