Geocache Description:

Perloja is a nice little town in the foresty Varena area by Merkys River.

It is well known for Perloja Republic which was established back in 1918 when Lithuania didn't have its own army. The Parish Committee was headed by the chairman Jonas Cesnulevicius and the Republic most of the attributes like a 300 men army, court and prison, its own currency, etc. The army constantly fought against invaders and Perloja survived under self government until 1923.
