The Green County Barn Quilts project started in 2008, and by the
end of 2010 the 100th barn quilt was installed. Barn quilts are
painted wooden squares (designed like one block of a real quilt
pattern), generally 8 x 8 feet in size. Some are located on
"working" barns, and others are displayed on "retired" barns. It's
not as challenging as geocaching, but hunting for the barn quilt
locations is a true adventure in experiencing the roads less
traveled of the Green County countryside.
The owner of this property grew up as a city boy who spent all of
his spare time coming to the country to be with his aunt and
uncles. He spent weekends and evenings helping milk cows, mending
fences and planting and harvesting crops. His love of spending time
on his uncles’ farms grew into a love of country living. He
recently acquired this property and is working to restore it to its
original state. It is a work in progress! This Barn Quilt is called
Star in the Valley.
