At the posted coordinates you will find two plaques two dates. Carefully choose the 'right' plaque. You only need be concerned with the years. Subtract 1123 from the first year to get Northerly coordinates and subtract 1658 from the second year to get Westerly coordinates.
The birds you'll walk by are Monk Parakeets and were accidentally introduced in this area several years ago. WIKI Article In addition to the Monk Parakeets, you may see Plovers, Coot, Egrets, Heron and Gulls
There is lots of space at the parking coordinates. The posted hours of the park and the beach are from sunrise to 10 PM. There is generally a lifeguard on duty and porta-potties available from approximately Memorial Day until Labor Day. The concrete "breakwater" is called a "groin" and is frequented by local fishermen. The rocky areas at low tide create tidal pools for some interesting wading and exploring. Dogs are not allowed on the beach but I see people walking dogs in the area of the cache stages all the time
I work close by this beach and often meet my wife here for lunch. If you see me, come up and say hi. I'll be the guy on the red blanket next to the gorgeous chick :-)
