Geocache Description:

Aloha Council BSA Home

This is a commemorative cache to 100 Years of Scouting in Hawaii. Both Scouting and Geocaching are active all over the world. Scouting has been around for 100 years and Geocaching only 8 but Scouts have taken to Geocaching in an active way. Geocaching is essentially pathfinding and pathfinding has been part of Scouting from its very beginning. Click on the link GeoScouting for more info on Scouts and Geocaching. This cache has been placed here with the consent of the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

In a few months Scouting will celebrate it's centennial and commemorate it's 100th year Nationally and in Hawaii. Scouting was brought to Hawaii by a local man named H. Harvey Hitchcock in 1910. He was an avid outdoorsman and artist. This cache was placed by two scouters one with the first troop Hitchcock started, Troop 1 which is still going strong today and will celebrate it's centennial in 2010 and one with Troop 75 which will be celebrating 50 years of scouting in Hawaii.

A lot of things have changed in scouting in Hawaii over the last 100 years. It started out small on Oahu but spread to all the islands and then all over the pacific region. The Aloha Council now covers Guam, The Marianas Islands, Marshall Islands, American Samoa, Micronesia and Palau. It covers an area over 8,000,000 square miles and both sides of the International Date Line and both sides of the equator. All in all the Aloha Council has over 19,000 young men and women actively involved along with almost 8,000 volunteers.

The cache is only available during Aloha Council Hours which are Tuesday & Wednesday 9:00am-5:00pm; Friday 9:00am-3:00pm and Closed on Monday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday.

Keep on the lookout for a new Cache To Eagle Series of Scouting Geocaches on Oahu to celebrate the 100 Years of Scouting in Hawaii. You can read about them at GeoScouting.com.

There are three unactivated Geocoins for the first three finders of the cache, good luck and happy caching. Congratulations to the first three finders - Off-Roader, CGOhana & kalohepirate.
