Hold Me Back! Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Muirwoody: I'm going to go ahead and archive this one. It had a good long run; someone else can place a new cache for the area. The 1st stage WAS missing. The attachment spot for the micro had been altered enough during bridge construction that I don't think I could hide another one there that would last more than a few days. I did recover the second stage and I removed it. The years had been rough on the ammo can, but it was still dry inside. There was no travel bug in it. Thanks to everyone who searched for this cache during its life!

Geocache Description:

The listed coordinates will take you to a micro that contains the coordinates and instructions for finding the ammo box at stage #2 less than 1 mile away.

Riverview Drive is the northern street in the neighborhood called Warfleigh (Wharf= River and Leigh=Area.)There wasn't much development in Warfleigh due to flooding before a small levy was built in 1920. After the levy was built water still backed up into the houses when the river rose. During the depression the government formed the WPA to give unemployed men jobs. These men cleared the silt and sand bars from the river which took the pressure off of the levy. After World War II Mr. Davidson (Davidson Furs)built a large number of homes in the area, and the government doubled the size of the levy. They also built the Warfleigh Pumping Station which helped control flooding. Then came January 1, 1991 and a few days to either side. The 500 year flood came. Water came through the levy and was almost over the top. I lived in one of those homes on Riverview at that time, and it was very frightening to see water 20' above your house not 100' away. This flood led to almost 15 years of public debate, planning and construction on how to improve the levy (now finished).

Enjoy your walk high over Riverview.
