Some people do not know that Kelowna has another meaning. The word means ”grizzly bear” to the Okanagan indigenous population.
One of the most striking things about grizzlies is their diversity. Differences in basic physical characteristics such as size and coat color are reflected in the variety of local names given the animals: silvertip, yellow bear, Toklat grizzly (golden coat with chocolate paws), and brownie, to name a few. Groups and individuals also vary strongly in their feeding habits, home range sizes, social interactions, personalities, and traditions passed along from mothers to young.
The grizzly is a symbol of the American wilderness. It remains one of the most dramatic, imposing life forms anywhere on Earth. Not all that long ago, the Great Bear shared dominion over the western half of the continent with Native Americans. But as european settlement expanded, grizzly numbers plummeted, first due to unchecked hunting, trapping and poisoning, then as a result of habitat loss.
To honor the grizzly bear, I thought it would be interesting to create 100 challenge caches for you to complete. All you have to do is sign the log and complete each individual challenge. Some challenges will be easy, some will be fun, some will be unusual and some will be hard.
So I guess the question is, can you complete all 100 challenges?
Kelowna's Challenge Bear #83 challenge requirements
This is a challenge cache, as such to claim your smilie you must complete the following steps:
- Find at least one cache that was placed on Nov 30th. NOTE: Event caches do not qualify for this challenge they are held not placed.
- Create a public bookmark called “Challenge bear #83". Bookmark this cache page.
- On each of the found caches, click on "Bookmark Listing" and then choose your new "Challenge bear #83" bookmark. Within this bookmark on each cache, note the date you found the cache.
- Sign the logbook.
- After you complied with all of the above challenge components, you can claim your "found it" smilie.
If you do not want or are unable to utilize the bookmark feature to document your compliance with challenge requirements, please document your meeting of the challenge requirements in a way that is clear to all. All non-qualifying "found-it" logs will be deleted.
In the interest of saving gas (for more caching) you may go and find the final, anytime, feel free to post your visit here with a "note" not a "find" until you have all completed all the requirements.
I know there are a few first to find cachers out there, to claim the first to find you must be the first to comply with all challenge requirements.

Just a reminder, this is not meant to be a power trail, as such power trail logging/caching practices are not acceptable.
