Geocache Description:

“OHIO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Ohio Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Buckeye Pioneers. This series is inspired by and a continuation of the Indiana Spirit Quest caches created by Six Dog Team. In just over three years, the SPIRIT QUEST has grown to over 550 caches, with the hiding teams growing as well. The Ohio Spirit Quest has begun to grow with twelve current hides in one Northwest Ohio county, with four current caching teams, three each with A Man and His Dog... and one with A Woman and her Dog. Over 1,000 cachers have logged over 20,000 finds. One cache machine found 111 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

Come with us now for a virtual tour of this old burial ground via this page, then go out and find the cache!

Lash Cemetery
OHIO SPIRIT QUEST #012
"Dolemite"

This is our twelfth hide across the border in Ohio. Listen to what -E- has to say:

Welcome to Lash Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Williams County, Ohio.

Lash is a cemetery hidden out in the open, right on Hwy 107 just east of Montpelier.

This is another cemetery without a sign giving the name. The name was found through online research, and it's also the first large headstone you see when you arrive. This cemetery made the pages of the local newspaper back in 1996 when presidential candidate Bob Dole stopped by for a visit. A man in nearby Montpelier had made the connection between Bob Dole and Michael Dole, a man buried at Lash Cemetery. Michael Dole was a farmer who owned about 150 acres of land just northeast of Montpelier in the 1850s. He died in 1867, was buried in Lash Cemetery, and turned out to be Bob Dole's great-great-grandfather.

Various Headstones

The cache container is a camo'd small tupperware. One car parking is available just off of the road. If you find a fallen US flag, please stick it back in the ground. As always, please be respectful, and cache in, trash out. Pray for our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, CoastGuardsmen and Airmen in harm's way.
