An easy half mile trek retracing the last ride of the Headless Horseman.
"It was midnight when Icabod Crane set out for home on his trusted steed, Gunpowder. As he entered the dark forest he found trees with limbs gnarled and fantastic, twisting down almost to the earth, and rising again into the air. As he approached a little nearer, he thought he saw eyes watching him from the midst of the trees.
The terrified school master continued on to the small brook which crossed the road. A few rough logs, served for a bridge over this stream. To pass this bridge was the severest trial. This has ever since been considered a haunted stream, and fearful are the feelings of the anyone who has to pass it alone after dark.
Suddenly, ahead, in relief against the sky, gigantic in height, and muffled in a cloak, was the Headless Horseman! Icabod’s terror rose to desperation; he rained a shower of kicks upon Gunpowder, hoping to give his companion the slip; but the spectre started full jump with him.
Just then Icabod heard the black steed panting close behind him; he even fancied that he felt its hot breath. He saw the goblin rising in his stirrups, in the very act of hurling his head at him. Ichabod endeavored to dodge the horrible missile, but too late. It encountered his cranium with a tremendous crash, --he was tumbled headlong into the dust, and Gunpowder, the black steed, and the goblin rider, passed by like a whirlwind.
The next morning, after the old horse was found without his saddle, an inquiry was set on foot, and after diligent investigation they came upon his traces. Villagers found tracks of horses' hoofs deeply dented in the road, a horse shoe lost during the furious chase, a tuft of black cloak caught on a fence post and the pieces of a shattered pumpkin."
