Geocache Description:

Park at N41' 11.311" W075' 53.642"

That's Ashley Planes with an E. Those of us 40 and over remember talk of the Ashley Planes. Back in the early 1900's a means of lifting railroad cars from Ashley to Mountain Top was needed as the steam powered locomotives simply were not strong enough to pull coal cars up a 14% grade. Three seperate pulling planes were built starting in Ashley, and ending in Solomans Gap. These were huge winches that were powered by steam ship engines, fired by coal and fed by four boilers each. A small car called a Barney was attached to a cable and pushed freight cars up the mountain. The barney car would follow a ramp down under the tracks and await it's load. As the freight car passed overhead, it would follow it up the ramp, and now from behind, would push the cars to the foot of the next plane. The barney ditches are still there to see. The first set of coordinates will lead you to the remains of the powerhouse for the #3 plane. The bricks used to build the powerhouse were made from clay from the Hudson river. What is the name of the brick company? Now proceed to N 41 11.939 W 075 53.806 and, using the first letter of the brick company, head due "?" for roughly 100yds. The cache is a 7.62mm ammo can. Please use discretion as ATV muggles abound. Log 2 ways: find the cache box and sign, or send me a picture at the first coordinate.
