The best way to do this is to stick to the trails. Bushwacking will
cut a lot distance-wise, but I doubt you'll save any time, as the
terrain is quite rugged once you leave the trail. Begin on the blue
blazed Hewitt-Butler trail (trailhead at N41.02.746,W74.21.016) and
take it to the red blazed Torne Trail. The trail will start out in
the wrong direction, but stick with it. Once you find the red
trail, it takes you in the right direction. If the blue trail
begins to climb steeply, you've probably missed the red trail and
are on your way to Skibum's Stone
Living Room cache. If you reach this point, you can either turn
back and look for the red trail, or forge onward and bag the Stone
Living Room cache, then continue past it on the blue trail to stage
one of Osio Rock Ramble. The blue trail eventually rejoins the red
trail near stage 1 (see the link on this page to the area trail map
for details).
Due to the terrain, GPS reception may be skittish in the area of
stage 1, so detailed clues are provided for this part. Stage 1 is
in a small, green plastic decon box (a little larger than a
cigarette pack). There are lead weights attached to and inside the
container, to make sure the it stays put. Please leave them. After
finding the first stage, your best bet is to get back on the blue
trail and take it to the cache site.
After finding the cache, be sure to head over to Osio Rock to
check out the aforementioned view. It's several hundred feet away
at N41.02.202,W74.21.020 and worth the short trip.
The cache is well hidden. Please make sure it remains that
way.
Note: There is no need to move, or disturb any rocks to find
the first stage of the cache.
