This cache is a little different from the others in the series,
in that I didn't discover it while travelling to/from work. My son
played baseball for a number of years and I was an umpire and,
during a game at nearby Melbourne Baseball Club which we were
involved in, some family members discovered this park while
wandering around after they got bored! They told me about it, and
it sounded interesting, but if it wasn't for
geocaching I would never have discovered and sampled it
delights
. The Surrey Dive has quite an interesting
history, which you can discover for yourselves from the
information board at the 1st waypoint. If you visit at around
0930 on a Sunday you may be treated to a display by the Surrey Park
Model Boat Club. One interesting item of trivia which I
picked up while researching the Dive is a rumour that one of
the S-class locomotives (all gone now
) was dumped into it a few decades
ago - however I find this a little difficult to believe
(How? and Why? have got me
stumped!).
The posted coordinates should find you near an information sign
and the top of some steps. To get the final coordinates, you will
have to glean the following information from the sign -
- In 1933 the Dive was able to boast an Olympic sized 100m course
with how many lanes ? = A
and
- How many metres deep was the Dive? = B
The cache can be located a short distance away at -
S 37° 49.4(A-2)7 E 145° 06.9(B÷4)5
It contains clues for the puzzle cache -
If it wasn't for ...
The clue is a separate bit of card in the logbook bag - don't
forget to get the info from it and please remember to replace it
along with the log. Other caches in the series are located not more
than a few kilometres away. They are -
Leafy Stroll
Grassy Meander and
Bushy Wander
The cache is a 200ml Sistema container. It should be an easy
find.
Good Luck!
