THIS SITE HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE CREEPIEST SITES IN TALLAHASSEE
THAT IS EASILY ACCESSABLE. THERE IS A FENCE SURROUNDING THE
BUILDING AND NO TRESPASSING SIGNS POSTED ON THE FENCE, AND FOR GOOD
REASON. I HAVE NO BELIEF IN THE SUPERNATURAL. I THINK THERE IS
ENOUGH IN THE REAL WORLD TO KEEP ME SCARED, LIKE ASBESTOS, BROKEN
GLASS, JAGGED METAL, PAINT HUFFERS AND OTHER PEOPLE TO BE WARY OF.
REASONS ENOUGH TO OBEY THE SIGNS AND KEEP OUT OF THE FENCED OFF
AREA. YOU CAN APPRECIATE THE CREEPINESS OF THIS PLACE FROM THE
OUTSIDE JUST AS WELL. THE CACHE IS HIDDEN OFF OF THE PROPERTY.
THANKS TO FYREWALKER FOR THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION: In 1952, the
building opened as the W.T. Edwards Tuberculosis Hospital. It cost
$3,500,000 and provided beds for 400 patients. This was the last
stop for many patients until treatment was discovered later on
causing the hospital to close down. On March 4th of 1962, it
re-opened as a facility for the mentally handicapped named
"Sunland." It was one of several of these hospitals located all
over the state. It received it's first 18 children from the Orlando
Sunland. These patients in the past were considered to have little
or no rights, and were sometimes subjected to abuse and unsanitary
conditions. The Sunland hospitals in Tallahassee and Orlando were
closed down in 1983 due to a class action federal lawsuit filed by
an organization called A.R.C. (Association for Retarded Citizens)
on the basis mainly of negligent conditions.
The cache is a round, plastic container with an orange,
screw-top lid. It contains Halloween related items, a log book,
pen. It is under a pile of debris. PLEASE CLOSE THE LID TIGHTLY AND
COVER THE CONTAINER BACK UP.
The coordinants will take you to the head of a paved path.
Choose the right path but not neccessarily the "right" path. There
is plenty of parking here. Follow the path to the end (a short
walk) then think of where you would be if you were a cache. It
should not be hard to find. PLEASE CLOSE THE LID TIGHTLY AND COVER
THE CONTAINER BACK UP.
