Coming Up for Air in Vietnam Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

globalgirl: Hmmm, suffice in my 1k+ finds I've found a LOT of film canisters in the soppy rain and... if the lid is closed securely, they do indeed prove highly waterproof.

In any case, I'll be leaving Dalat soon - moving on to other corners of Southeast Asia and beyond - so I'm necessarily archiving this one. Thanks to everyone who found it.

Geocache Description:

Yup, the girl of globe has finally resurfaced, uh... as you might expect - on the other side of the globe here in Asia. Yesiree, dumped everything (including necessarily archiving my 20+ hides) back in my beloved Seattle, bought a one way ticket to Vietnam more than a year ago, and...

Here I am, most blissfully settled in my (new beloved) French hill town of coool, greeen Dalat. Needless to say I've had plenty of adventures over the past 18 months including nosing around Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa, Phu Quoc Island, Saigon, along with various 'n sundry other corners of Vietnam, three weeks in Sumatra (gawking at orangutans), dashes to Singapore, Chaing Mai in Thailand and Angkor Wat in Cambodia, a month in the wilds of Mongolia, another near month in Oz, and most recently a skip to the annual Elephant Festival in neighboring Laos. In short, exploring this side of the globe in earnest, whilst grabbing a geocache or two along the way.

The only downside to this nomadic marathon is... sadly, there aren't nearly as many geocaches in Vietnam as the plethora of what - nearly 29 THOUSAND in Washington state alone? Indeed, here in Dalat, there's long been but a SINGLE cache hide (GC1VPDB).

So what's a girl to do? Well drop a hide or two that's what. I mean SOMEBODY'S gotta do it, yes?

So this is my first hide in my new home here in Dalat. Tis mighty tough to find a good place to hide even a micro caches in Vietnam as the parks are all manicured within an inch of their merry lives, the Vietnamese are by nature, a very curious bunch, and... we gargantuan foreigners stick out like sore thumbs (even when we're NOT fingering tree crooks and pawing through bushes).

Nonetheless, hopefully I've managed to find a halfway secure spot that's right in the heart of Dalat, so an easy walk from your hotel for visitors. Puleeeeeze be discreet and watch for nearby muggles when searching. Indeed, in order to make this as easy-peasy as possible (and thus diminish the risk of seekers being tossed in a communist prison for behaving like lunatics in a public space - just kidding, but still...) I'll give you a hint right up front:

This sucker is a white film canister tucked about 5 feet (uh, that would be 1.524 meters, see? this imperial lass is slowly coming 'round to metric) high. Furthermore, it is NOT anywhere near the little storage house at the cache site, so no need to rummage around there and risk creating an international incident.

Chúc may maốn!
