This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Geocache Description:

This is one of the series of caches placed throughout Camden County to bring awareness to historical locations. It has been placed here with the permission of the Mayor of Hi-Nella. Please be respectful of the area around the cache as nothing needs to be disturbed to find it.

Farmland covered Hi-Nella in the 1700s and 1800s.

Development in the less than one-quarter square mile that makes up Hi-Nella began in the early 1920s, when Lucius W. Parker, a major local landowner and former mayor of Gibbsboro, bought farmland from John Kaighn, a prominent area citizen. Parker set up what came to be known as Hi-Nella Estates, a development of houses.

In 1924, Charles W. Darling, a civil engineer, was hired to plan the town and lay out its streets. He thought of the idea of giving all 12 of Hi-Nella’s streets Indian names.

At the time, Hi-Nella was located in what was Clementon Township.

Hi-Nella Borough was established as a municipality in 1929. It was one of seven municipalities created from Clementon Township through the years, and one of five municipalities created from Clementon Township on the same date of April 23, 1929. The other four formed on that date were Lindenwold Borough, Pine Hill Borough, Pine Valley Borough and Somerdale Borough.

As of 1930, the community had 160 people and 60 homes. It was a stop along a local trolley line.

Dobbs Farm began operating in 1939. A 300-year-old farmhouse stands on the land.

In 1950, the borough conducted a public sale of lots that were thought to be hard to sell for the building of houses.

By the end of the 1950s, the community had 474 residents.

In the 1960s, some of the 75 acres on Dobbs Farm went to build Sterling High School in Somerdale, Hi-Nella Shopping Center, Fox Ridge Apartments and Hi-Nella Inn. The farm now has 30 acres.

This is in a high muggle area, use stealth. You will need to bring a pen to sign the log.
