Geocache Description:

This is the first event as part of the Welsh Mega 2011, a chance to meet fellow cachers and maybe visit a cache or two.

The Flashmob Event which will take place at 5pm within the park and last for the traditional 15 minutes. Raffle tickets will be issued to decide who may claim the FTF.

Pembrey Country Park is firmly established as one of Wales' top attractions. With its award winning golden sandy beach, dry ski slope, toboggan ride, crazy golf, pitch and putt, miniature train rides, adventure play area, equestrian centre and a variety of nature trails, there is something for the whole family. Further information about the park can be found at (visit link)

In the 20th century, RAF Pembrey played a major role in Britain's defences as home to both fighter and bomber aircraft. Close by, a Royal Ordnance Factory, ROF Pembrey, provided high explosives for Britain's war effort. RAF training continues to this day on a bombing range to the west of the country park near Kidwelly.

On entering the park, several abandoned bunkers are visible, these being the remains of the former Royal Ordnance Factory that closed in 1965. Upon further exploration (particularly of the wooded trails) many, many more bunkers and tunnels of differing sizes and shapes can be found. The woods and bunkers provided a focus point for an episode of Living TV's Most Haunted, which was aired in April 2008.

Parking charges (per car - payable at the main entrance) are £5.00 until 2:30pm, £4.00 until 4:30pm or £2.00 (in coins) after 4:30pm.

Dogs are welcome within the park but please respect other users by keeping them on leads. There is a dog ban on the main section of beach. Please follow 'dogs on beach' signs as there is still approximately 6 miles of beach available for dog walking.

You are welcome to stay around after the event and use the surrounding facilities, but the log book must be signed within the 15 minutes in order for you to qualify for the event cache.

Following the Flashmob Event, Swansea Bay Orienteering Club will be holding an informal Summer League event nearby from 5:30pm until 8:30pm. Final details of this event will be made available nearer the time at (visit link) You don't have to be a runner to try orienteering! The club has members from the ages of 8 to 80. Four courses will be available which are suitable for novices to experienced orienteers with distances ranging from 1.5Km to 4.5Km. Longer courses will take you off the beaten track past several of the lesser known bunkers. Assistance will be available for newcomers. All you need is a pen, an A4 waterproof clear plastic bag, a stout pair of shoes and a compass (if you have one).

Have fun, and hope to see you there - OH, PLEASE BRING A TORCH and state in your log if you would like to have a go at the orienteering so that enough maps can be prepared.
