Geocache Description:

Short hike in the Birdsboro Watershed.

Park at either of the gates off rt 345. (40 14.510N 075 47.977W or 40 14.567N 075 47.968W) Proceed into the Watershed and follow your GPSr. Most of the trails in this area are wide, clear, and easy to hike. Cache is located just off a main trail not too far from the parking areas. This is a very popular public hunting grounds, so please wear your orange during hunting seasons!!!

The "for hard core hikers only" reference made by ODragon in his log, I believe, pertains to a 6 mile loop done by several of us after an event, not specifically to this one cache. This cache is actually pretty easy to get to on its own. For those "hard core hikers" out there who would like a bit more of an adventure, feel free to do the whole loop (which is very hilly/rocky in parts). I would suggest starting with this cache, then heading to A Stone's Throw Away from the Pipeline, then to A Fork in the Trail, then Stately Tree, then Holey Cache!!, and finally to Birdsboro Reservoir. There is a trail near this last cache which will take you up, up, up the hill back to Stone's Throw. Alternately, you can park a second car at the gate on old rt 82 (40 14.315 and 75 50.054) to avoid the tired trudge up the hill.

Update 9/3/07--the Gnarly Tree has fallen, but the cache is still alive and well, in the same place. Too bad...it was a really cool old tree
