Geocache Description:

Levittown Legacy #54: Garfield Park North and Beech Tree Site

This series of caches is dedicated to the history of Willingboro, and especially, the legacy of the Levittown years.

Garfield Park North began in the late 1960s.  Most people don't realize that this little spit of Willingboro sticks out onto Springside-Rancocas Rd.  It is bordered by Westampton Township on one side, and Burlington Township on the other.  This is also a park and was the site of the Willingboro's historic beech tree.  At one time, the 300+ year old tree had a circumference of 14' 4" and was considered to be the second largest in the state.** While the tree is long gone, this is still marked as the Beech Tree Site on maps.  This beech tree was used as part of the township seal.  Please be careful of traffic and muggles and rehide cache as found.  There is a NJ Scratch-Off Lottery Ticket for the FTF!

**Information from Imagines of America: Willingboro by Josh Bernstein.  This book includes a photo of the Willingboro beech tree.

Congrats to tsemclarney for FTF!
