This 6 part multi will have your tongue wagging from the
strenuous 12.6 mile roundtrip by trail, and your jaw dropping from
the awesome views to be had along the way. The hike will not be
boring, as there are many peaks, ledges, walls, saddles, boulders
and large trees around every corner. This was one of the most
visually stimulating hikes I’ve had in the Adirondacks.

Plan on taking all day on this one and bring your camera and
your snake bite kit. Eastern Timber Rattlers are known to live
here. They are protected, so leave ‘em alone. There is a leanto in the area, so an overnight stay is
possible. I have no idea whether or not the rattlers will seek out
the warmth inside your sleeping bag!
Park at Clay Meadow Trailhead at
N43d37.763’, W73d36.502’. Overflow parking is
just south at the fishing access parking area.
Since this is a long hike, I made the contents survival
oriented, and did not include any kids
trade items. FIRST FINDER PRIZE is a 46 piece survival kit.
Make sure you bring paper, pencil, and a GPSr that can accurately project waypoints.
Bearings are true. Re-hide the containers exactly as you found
them, and write down ALL the instructions and hints you find. A
24,000 scale topo map of the Tongue Mountain Range would be helpful
with the projections. The final is a regular metal container, and
the others are small. The coordinates were averaged to 7 to 11
feet. Each container is in a fairly obvious location, but I left a
clue or two to help out where I felt you may need it.
I don’t want you to spend a lot of time searching for the
caches. I’d rather you to spend the time hiking and enjoying
the scenery.
There is no reliable source of water listed for the hike once
you leave the lakeshore. Bring plenty of water. Bring your headlamp
too. You could get caught out in the dark if you don’t allow
enough daylight. As always- make sure you tell someone your plans
for this hike.
