Geocache Description:

Famous for it's long-gone race-track and community water well, Burr Rd was once the back bone of Commack NY. Once notorious for thier thoroughbred track stars, the Burr family made paramount contributions to the equestrian community.

Dont look too hard, this cache is DEAD smak beneath your nose.

Now a well established suburban area, Burr Road once was home to the Smith Burr Family. At it's most eastward end, on the northern corner once stood a water well, now covered over by a home, the well was sealed in the early 1930's. The Burr family first settled in Comac in the mid-late 1700's, building the family planation, and horse farm. The family home would be torn down to make way for the famed Burr Mansion in the 1800's and would for a short time, serve as an Inn. Burr hall wouldnt be demolished untill the mid 1930's when it fell into serious disrepair.

This cache, black ammo box, is on the street-side right-of-way, just near the Brown Family Cemetary.
Im starting it off with a toy VW, a matchbox car, a Herbie the Love Bug magnet, a wooden coin, a Knot travel bug, and a few other small trinkets.

While your here, look east, where the traffic light now stands, once was where the town well stood. Aswell, just down the road about 1000 feet east, where the water authority now houses a pump, oce stood Burr Hall, across from which stands the Burr Mansion.

Have fun!
Welcome to Commack!
