Geocache Description:

Schuylkill River History!

Check out Heuser Park on a topographic map (click on the MyTopo link). It's called Impound Basin #23. Coal debris from the Schuylkill River was pumped into this basin and allowed to drain through a weir. The weir is a big concrete structure that you can see from Google or Mapquest imagery. Here's a similar one: (visit link)

The impound basin was created in the 1940s or 50s. Upper Merion purchased the property in 2000, the coal silt was sold for charcoal, and the park created in 2005.

The final is located *in* the weir, but you don't need to enter it to get the cache.

Stage one is a small fake rock with the coords to the final. It is placed at the base of a thorny tree.

If you think you can figure out where the weir is, go straight to it and skip stage 1! Once you have found the weir, the cache should be easy to find. Avoid the poison ivy growing on the corner, though!

Please park in the nice section of the park (near stage 1) whichever way you go, and watch out for trucks transporting dirt and/or mulch.
