Geocache Description:

Welcome to a Geocaching Storytelling Competition! "Fiddler's Hearth" Saturday January 21st, 11:00am to 3:00pm

UPDATE: *SOMEBODY LOST A PRETTY DANGLY CIRCLY EARRING AT FIDDLERS, CALL 'EM THEY HAVE IT! ALSO, MEETOO I HAVE YOUR CERTIFICATE, LEMME KNOW IF I CAN MAIL IT TO YA!(Or I could create a cache for you/for it!)

We had around 55 folks come out to tell their stories and laugh at other people's stories. So many generous people brought donations we had to add an extra door prize table!

We opened with my "Cacher's Prayer":

"Dear God, Thank you for the health I enjoy that allows me to cache. Thank you for the forests, nooks and crannies and brilliance. Please let me only fall down a few times today. Please part the bloody trees for better reception! Please don't let that other FTF Hound get this one. Thank you for attempting to help my friends and family understand why I enjoy looking for worthless trinkets for hours. Thank you for my friends and family who cache with me, but please let me find it first! AMEN."

MaxB donated the FABU FIRST PLACE PRIZES which were travelbugs and attatchable debris relevant to the Storytelling category. (see below)

9erbears donated two superfantastic TROPHIES! WOW!

There were alot of really nice door prizes from a kewl "Life is Good" Mug with goodies from OUTER GROUNDS, a $25 gift certif & a mug from FIDDLER'S HEARTH, Books from CHRISTIAN FAMILY BOOKSTORES, Geo coins, batteries, micro containers, equipment, license plate frame, HUGE flashlight, fanny pack, lanyards, and tons more..I think we had about 25 different things!

...and thank you all for the rave reviews of the event...you made me feel very appreciated and the compliments felt very rewarding next to seeing what fun you all had! I am actually a motivational speaker, trainer and experienced M.C. by trade, so I had better be good at it! 99% of the success for "Tell Me a Story" had NOTHING to do with me...it was YOUR energy, YOUR participation, YOUR stories and YOUR generosity with laughter that made this an overwhelming success. I am just glad to have shared it with you and definitely plan this as an annual event.

Be sure to check out MIDWEST GEO BASH, I plan to be there with about one thousand of my closest friends....or is that ONE...MILLION...?

Love & Laughter to ALL OF YOU!

Heather AKA "Farbrent"

OLD UPDATE:
66 Cachers Registered as of Jan 17th. Ten total categories including a Travel Bug and Tall Tales Open Category added, How I Lost Myself/Things I've Lost are now COMBINED. Check In/Meet/Greet/Eat from 11am-12:30pmish. Then the Storytelling Competition. After that, caching if you are into that sort of thing. We will do a door prize raffle if you wanted to bring goodies for it, donations welcome. Competition Prizes are all set, useful and funny! FREE WIRELESS IS AVAILABLE AT FIDDLER'S!!! Looking forward to seeing all of you!

The holidays are over and although the diehards are not swayed, it is a bit frigid to be out in the elements caching about! Come join us at this fabulous Irish Pub "Fiddler's Hearth" with thick wood tables, excellent Irish food selection, and of course...GUINNESS!

Sit by the fire or step up to the mic to take your chance at winning prizes for your creative storytelling regarding your cache adventure in one of several categories:

"My Appreciation of Police Appreciation of Geocaching"

"How I Met a Person of Interest(my Spouse?) Geocaching Where You Shouldn't Have to Meet People"

"How I Almost Died Once While Geocaching"

"Items I Have Lost While Geocaching"

"How I Lost Myself While Geocaching!"

"My Biggest Geocaches Found Day"

"Worst Geocaching Adventure"

"My Parents Take Me Geocaching But I'm Better At It!"

"Life is Like Geocaching Because..."

(Email me if you would like to adjust or suggest a category or donate prizes.)

Winners and runner's up will receive Certificates of Appreciation. Other Prizes may be really good or really bad, no guarentees on value! I will know more closer to the date. I plan to get some gift certificates and lottery tickets at least. Trophies are a long shot, but possible!

Space is limited to 60-100 folks, so please keep your registrations up to date! It is helpful if you can tell us in your log which competitions, if any, you plan to enter.

As we get closer to the date depending on entries I will determine how many people can compete in the categories...some will only want to watch, some of you will have three stories for every category! If we need to limit the entries, We will draw names and folks may be limited to entering one category. (Of course if no one signs up at all, I will FINALLY be able to monopolize a microphone and speak without ceasing! I usually have to do that without a mic!)

There are several urban caches nearby if we wanted to walk to them. I DO NOT advise driving if you are on the "Enjoys Guinness" list. Please be VERY responsible if you choose to drink. You will be cut off or asked to leave if you are having too good of a time due to inebriation versus charming company!

Plan to order a snack or lunch and perhaps a hot bevvie...Carol the owner has no idea what she is getting herself into, but she is being very kind about it. Children are welcome, but they aren't allowed to drink! If you play guitar etc feel free to bring it. Don't come early, they open at 11:00am.

NOTE: For those of you looking to stay over, One Angel suggested Roseland which is 5 minutes from Fiddler's Hearth and has inexpensive options like Knights Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Motel 6 etc. For those of you with money burning holes there is the tres cher Marriot Hotel and Holiday Inn a block or two from Fiddler's and our lovely East Race for strollin' and caching.

Fiddler's Hearth is located dowtown South Bend, Indiana at 127 North Main Street. (visit link) There is a FREE parking garage across the street. The pub should be hard to miss with all of those Irish Flags and Irish eyes a smilin'!
