Lovers Key CITO
You are Invited to Join the Unusual Suspects, The Friends of Lover Key and the Local Geocaching community for a Cache In Trash Out (C.I.T.O.) EVENT on Saturday, March 31st, 2012, 10:00 a.m. Until 12:00 With lunch immediately following the event.
Cache In Trash Out (CITO; pronounced “see-toe”) is an ongoing initiative practiced by geocachers worldwide. Cachers are dedicated to helping the environment by picking up trash in parks and other cache-friendly places to help preserve the natural beauty. CITO events are held year-round, and focus on litter clean-up, removal of invasive exotic plants, revegetation of native species, and building or maintaining trails.
The international CITO weekend is traditionally set around Earth Day, which is in late April this year. In celebration of what appears to be an early spring, we thought we’d be the early bird on our event! Rain or shine, let’s get together on Saturday, March 31st. You don’t have to be a cacher to participate – but if you’re not careful, you might just catch the bug!
Entry fees for participants will be waived by park. We’ll meet at the shelter in parking lot #3 at 10:00 a.m. The park will provide trash bags and pickers. We also have a limited supply of work gloves, but recommend you bring your own if you have them. We’ll divide into groups to tackle the shoreline and trails, and then meet back at the shelter at noon for lunch.
The park is providing the hot dogs. We ask that you help out by bringing one of the following items, based on your LAST NAME (not your geohandle):
• A thru E – Drinks
• F thru J – Salad – potato, pasta, bean, etc
• K thru O – Deserts, fruit tray, etc
• P thru S - Veggies or snacks.
• T thru Z – Paper & plastic products – plates, cups, eatin’ irons, etc
Things to Wear Are:
Closed/Old Shoes
Rubber Boots (If You Have)
Long/Old Pants
Long/Old Sleeved Shirts
A Hat
Gardening/Work Gloves (If You Have)
Bug spray and/or Sun Screen
Water and Snacks
We Will Have a Prize or Two for Something Total Random that Happens During the C.I.T.O.
