You are looking
for a rectangular Tupperware style container of about 18cms by
12cms and about 6cms in height. The cache is in a camo bag, please
try and keep everything watertight when you visit. At the bottom of
the container you will find a few spare bags (at time of placing).
Also in the cache is the obligatory log book and a double ended
pencil which need to stay in the cache. This is our 2004 Samhain
cache.
Whichever direction you approach this cache; you will be treated
to some spectacular views overlooking the whole of Berkhamsted. The
cache site itself is like a snapshot of days gone by, with little
if any signs of modern day trappings. There are many footpaths and
routes you can take to reach the cache, although we can recommend
the walk from the parking location given below. Be aware that sound
travels exceptionally well up here. So if you hear a muggle, they
could be up to 2 miles away giving you plenty of advanced
warning.
Suggested parking: 51° 45.769N 000° 33.792W - This is the
entrance to a 4 hour free car park in Berkhamsted, just follow
Broadwater to the car park.
Nearest pub on walk: None - However there are about 14 of
them in Berko town centre!
Total walk distance from suggested parking: Approx 3 miles
(there and back).
EPE of cache reading: 20 feet. Things to see
The cache co-ordinates have been amended slightly due to the
cache having recently been moved. When we came to check out the
cache, we were unable to find its new location and presumed it had
been stolen, however it soon came to light that this was not the
case. Taking a stroll up there on the 28th December it took us
several minutes to find the new location of our cache, before we
moved it again to somewhere more suitable. The note in the log book
read: "Not a good idea placing in a badgers set. Removed from set
& re-hidden. Spike." It is worth noting that at the time of
placing, no badgers had moved in to this location, so they must
have spied us placing the cache, and thought it was a good place to
setup home :)
Caution!
The cache is now in close proximity to water, so care must be taken
when approaching the area, especially if you are with children or
dogs; or are caching at night.
If you have logged a find for this cache at its previous home,
feel free to revisit the new home and log it as another
find.
