Technically, the spot where the end of a mountain meets the
flatlands is the 'toe', so this cache should more properly be
called "West Shoulder", but I liked the name "West Toe" better.
Just 40 feet uphill from the cache site is a great view - I could
see the Point Bonita lighthouse and the Farrallon Islands as well
as downtown San Francisco.
Kindergarten Teacher gave me the cache container as a gift, so I
thought it only fitting to leave it somewhere in her
neighborhood.
You can approach this from the East or the West.
From the East, park in the San Bruno Mountain parking lot on
Guadalupe Parkway. Take the service road up the hill and then catch
the Summit Loop trail at N 37 41.359 W 122 26.472. If you miss this
and find yourself on the road in front of a locked gate, navigate
downhill to the North towards N 37 41.515 W 122 26.769. Continue on
the Summit Loop trail towards a small cutoff trail at N 37 41.647 W
122 26.896. If you don't want to pay the $5.00 parking fee at the
San Bruno Mountain lot, park at "No Entrance Fee Required" (GCMANJ)
and walk through the park to the main lot.
From the West, park at the corner of Atlanta St. and Royce Way.
Walk up to the end of Royce Way and angle sharply to your left
towards N 37 41.539 W 122 27.261. You should find yourself on a
steep trail that leads up the hill to the cache site. If you want
to persue other caches in the park, proceed downhill from the cache
until you hit the Summit Loop trail and take that to the East.
