Exploring the Urban Legend of Kate
Blood.
Myth: There are several
prevailing myths concerning the demise of Kate Blood, her husband
George and her children. The first is that she murdered her
husband, her children, and then committed suicide. Thus the
officials of the city placed their grave site away from the others
to hide her deed.
The second is that her husband killed her in a drunken rage
believing she was sleeping with one of her male friends, when she
was only talking to him about her problems with her husband.
And most sensational of all is that she not only killed her
children but ate them as well since she was actually a witch and
that's what witches do!
Other myths surround the grave site and the experiences of those
who've visited. Some have reported seeing blood drip from the
stone, others have seen a lady dressed in white walking away from
the headstone and still others have heard the sound of footsteps
followed by shrill screams.
Truth: George M. Miller did not
die until 19AB;
JG years after Kate's death in
187D, therefore she could not have
killed him. The initials on the small tombstones, often
misconstrued as those of her E
murdered children, are actually small headstones for the adults
interred here, I of which were
married to George. This is easily verified by the
H raised "M"'s initialed on the
small markers and the fact that Kate only had
F children. (use
logic)
The second story is plausible, but still false as proven by recent
research which indicates that she actually died from consumption
(Turboculosis) in Kansas visiting relatives on her way to
Colorado.
There have been C documented
cases of actual activity, not just anecdotal appearances of
Kate the witch or real Blood oozing from the headstone. Some have
reported seeing red nail polish on the monument and heard strange
noises in the vicinity of the graves. When Giz and I visited, all
we found was a note left by Mary for another visitor. Maybe you
will have your own Kate Blood experience as you follow her spirit
down the trail...
To find the cache, solve the puzzle for N44°
AB.CDE W88°
FG.HIJ and then proceed to the
coordinates where Kate's ghost was sighted. There, if you shine
your light close to the trail, you should be able to activate
spirit markings by shining your flashlight at shoulder height for a
while and then turning it off to let your eyes adjust. Do this
until you spot the final marking which points to the cache which is
in a place where Kate likes to come and spend time on moonlit
nights.
Once you have found the cache, you may, if you wish, leave your own
virtual
Note on her resting place. Please be courteous and respectful
in your notes to Kate, she can use your sympathy.
