Geocache Description:

A Puzzle Cache requiring some on-line research.

The SQ in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project by the Northwest Ohio Geocachers to distinguish those caches that are set in cemeteries or memorial gardens. I decided to copy that indicator for our cemetery caches to highlight cemeteries in the area.

Please be respectful of the area, and observe the posted hours which are sunrise to sunset.

This cache will hopefully teach the searcher something about the history of the Chatham-Kent area, and some of the early inhabitants’ involvement in the assistance of escaped slaves from the United States.
Specifically, it is about the Rev. William King, founder of the Elgin Settlement, later to be known as Buxton.

It is a 2 stage multi cache, ending in a micro that contains only a log sheet and pencil.
Please stay on the roadways, and respect the area. This cache can be done completely without leaving the paths.
The cemetery is closed from sundown to sunup.

The cache is not at the listed coordinates, but they will take you to the Old Maple Leaf Mausoleum where you can park. The recommended way to do this cache will be to walk the paved roadways in the cemetery, and enjoy the calm atmosphere of the place, but actually, it can be done completely from your car if you wish.

The coordinates for the first stage of the cache must be obtained from the following website which will tell you about the Rev. King and the Elgin Settlement. Obviously, this must be done before you go to the cemetery!

 North Buxton Wikipedia
Enter the site, and read all about how the settlement was formed, and the Rev. King’s vision for it.
From the first 3 paragraphs, the information you need is as follows.
The year the comunity was established, and the approximate popupation there now

N42° 23.(The year the settlement was established minus 945)
W082° 09.(The approximate population there now minus 56)

These co-ordinates will take you to the grave of the Rev. Wm. King.

Once there, you will find the next set of co-ordinates by working a formula on the inscription on the grave of Rev. King. The information needed is as follows.
The year Rev. King was born, and his age at death.

N42° 23.(The year of his birth minus 916)
W082° 09.(His age at death plus 119)

The cache is a large micro, with room for only a log sheet.

Happy hunting, and hopefully you will have learned some of Chatham-Kent's rich history
