This cache is hidden in the Yorba Linda Lakebed Park. There is a path that leads to it, but it's overgrown and depending on the season, there could be thistles. Of course, no one said you have to use the trail.
*A NEW CLUE HAS BEEN ADDED* - Since it is no longer safe to climb the tree that the cache was in, I have changed the hiding spot. The coordinates remain the same.
*THE CACHE IS CAMOUFLAGED* very well, and the natural camouflage that is specific to this area has made it even more difficult to find. Good luck!
The lakebed was a place where friends and I hung out when I was younger - the location of the cache is an area we called Winter Wonderland. We called it that because it's an enclosed thicket of trees (cottonwood I believe) that would trap the cotton-like fibers that came off the surrounding trees when the wind blew. The interior area was covered in several inches of this cotton and it looked like snow - in the middle of the southland. Pretty darn cool.
Recent heavy rains and resulting flooding have destroyed a good chunk of the area, so you won't have the opportunity to see Winter Wonderland in all of its glory, but some cotton is starting to accumulate again. Probably not the ideal cache for people with allergies.
The area is pretty thick with tweens and teens, so be careful or you'll lead them to the cache. It's not a stealth cache by any means, just be aware is all.
