Update 10/31/03. Hello! We are the owners of this geocache. We
recently re-visited it, and found it to be in good shape. We
transferred the contents from the tupperware type container to an
ammo box. There has been a great deal of discussion of the
coordinates for this cache. We measured again, and entered the
coordinates at the top of the page. These are very close to
magpie's and andywatson's coordinates. However, we still believe
the mountains could interfere with reception, as we lost and
regained satellite reception a number of times.
[Original intro begins here] This is our first geocache and we
hid it on Easter weekend 2001. We graded it 2.5 for difficulty
because of the potential need to re-acquire satellite reception a
number of times along the route. Apparently, the mountains
interfere to a certain extent. The search should be a test for both
man and machine.
There are three routes to the geocache, one taking you through a
pretty stand of hemlocks. Whatever route you use, go about 100 feet
out past the rhododendron stand, and then go uphill. It's in a
fallen log with flat stones from the nearby creek holding it
secure. If you're in the area, be sure to visit the Green Bank
Radio Astronomy Telescope about 12 miles north. It's gigantic and
quite a site. As of 2003, it has a new visitors center with good
exhibits.
Enjoy the hike.
