The Menehune, a small-sized Polynesian people
were the first settlers of Hawai'i. They are very clever,
industrious and full of magic. Building large fishponds, long
aquaducts and huge Temple platforms. As the population of
other people groups grew, a retreat by the Menehune became
necessary.
It is said that their King at last gave up and sailed off to
Necker,
Nihoa...
and this Menehune Island.
Start from the Wai'alae Beach Park.
Stroll along the beach, bring the kids!
And be sure to go in the backside of the
Kahala Hotel.
Bring your own PEN! Be careful
3 GPSr's have now drowned!
The finder's log on August 13, 2006 by
Team GeoBlast. It was an ALL Menehune afternoon and an
enjoyable one at that. I figured sundown would be a nice quiet time
for a little solitary swim. Not. I'm not a big fisherman but should
have remembered that the Halalu were running. Oh my! Never seen so
many people shorefishing. Walking up the beach, I counted the
coconut trees and decided that all electronics would not be leaving
the shoreline today I've shot my toy budget for a while and would
rather search every inch of the island. What a Hawaii type cache
this one is!...
