Geocache Description:

The cache can be reached from here with a short walk. It is a plastic kitchen box under a tree at the edge of the nearby woods.

This cache was placed here for those who can be made to think for a moment if they learn that once there was a vibrant settlement here in the place of this well kept forest and meadow, but the storms of history wiped it off the face of the earth. The village was called Lugos. Its history goes back all the way to the era of Árpád, the Hungarian chieftain. The ancient border guards lived here. The Turks destroyed the settlement in 1588. Later a few families returned, and the landowners brought in cattle and sheep to the area. The population peaked at the turn of the 19th century with almost 50 residents. The communist system of the 1950s terminated the settlement. The forest returned once again.
Parking is at the roadside cross: N 46° 53,2720' E 16° 27,5220'
Not far from here, there is a memorial of the settlement: N 46° 53,2860' E 16° 27,4800'. Warning! The little body of water behind the memorial is not a pond but the remnant of an old well.
