The cache is located on the old Bishop’s Stortford to Braintree
branch line between Great and Little Dunmow. The track bed is now a
walking and cycling route known as the Flitch Way.
The line was opened for passenger use on 22nd February
1869.Virtually the entire length of the 18 mile route was single
track, except at Dunmow and one or two other stations where dual
track allowed trains to pass each other. The last train to run
between the two towns was on 1st March 1952.
Despite the loss of the passenger services the line was kept open
for freight traffic. From March 1962 the line was used to carry
bananas to the newly built Geest factory at Easton Lodge. Up to 300
tons of unripe fruit was transported to the factory every week
where it was stored to ripen. Road transport eventually took over
and the line was finally closed on 27th July 1972.
Parking is available at N51 51.635 E 0 22.583 and N51.51.992 E 0

The cache is a 0.33 ltr lockable plastic tub.
