(Pronounced: Wapicada - the "K" being silent) This 352 acre natural area along the Wapsipinicon River was one of the first areas acquired by the Linn County Conservation Board as a wildlife management area. The area contains oxbow wetlands and several ponds that remain from the sand quarrying that took place with the four-lane construction of nearby IA Hwy. 13 in the 1970s. Other features of the area include: primitive camping & restrooms, boat ramp access to the river, hiking/equestrian trail, hunting.
This area is managed by staff as a unit of the Wapsipinicon River District, headquartered at nearby Pinicon Ridge Park.
