Geocache Description:

Another of my “Take care of Mom” (mother nature) caches. It is placed near the lesser traveled Hardy Canyon trail in Round Valley Regional Preserve. An easy hike of approximately 1 mile round trip if you turn back at the coordinates. The cache (when placed) is chock full of animal related goodies, hand selected by my 8 year old, sure to please the little cachers. The idea here is to encourage our next generation to have a sense of wonderment and fascination with the great outdoors. With this will hopefully come knowledge and the will to help preserve our valuable open spaces and wilderness areas so that all the critters of this planet have a place to call home.

Round Valley is home to many species of mammals, reptiles, birds, insects and amphibians. Including the endangered San Joaquin kit fox and the threatened California red legged frog as well as the spectacular Golden Eagle to name a few. While searching for this cache, with or without a mini cacher, take some time to observe the wonderful flora and fauna of the region and if you see something interesting, make a note of it in your log or post a picture.

Be advised that some of the animals out here wish nothing more than to be left alone such as the occasional rattlesnake or scorpion. Use care when poking about and moving rocks or logs. Also replace them carefully as it is probably somebody’s home and you could easily injure or kill a really cool critter with a carelessly rolled rock.

So grab your little cacher, go for a hike and enjoy the outdoors. Also remember, please always tread lightly and CITO (or CIRO GC125PW) while out in Mom’s country.
