Geocache Description:

This is part of the River Valley Historical Tour.

The River Valley Historical Tour
This is one of the River Valley Historical Tour caches. They are an assortment of caches designed to share the history of this area. Please take the time to appreciate this area for what it once was and what it can be again- a vibrant, thriving place where people lived, did business and raised their families. From the original people who fished and lived along the banks of the Penacook Falls (be sure to visit them while you are in the area) to the first settler, Jonathan Keyes in 1777 and the major changes brought by the arrival of Hugh Chisholm and his vision of a paper company in 1882, it has been a long and interesting journey for the Valley area. There is lots to see and do so come, make a day of it. Picnic with Paul Bunyan and his friends, swim at the local swimming holes or get some exercise on the hiking trails.

The caches are a wide variety of shapes, sizes and locations. We hope you have as much fun locating them as we did developing this project.

One thing: Please always think about what you write in your logs!! Spoilers (too much info, specific comments) can ruin it for the next cachers. Let’s keep it fun for all from the FTF to the latest seeker! Thank you

Number Five
The Hotel Harris
This is the location of the original passenger station of the Portland and Rumford Falls Railway. It burned down in 1913.
Looking across the bridge you will see The Hotel Harris. It was built in 1906, refurbished after the fire of 1931 burned the top two floors. It was very elegant for its time. Be sure to get a close up look of the architectural details of the outside. In the lobby the ceilings and arches are painted in ornate style. You can still se the telegraph system behind the old counter. It is now rented apartments with a salon and restaurant in the bottom. You can get an excellent meal in the restaurant.

You are looking for a nano. Hope you enjoy the search.

Congrats to Gob-Ler - his persistence paid off for the FTF!!
