Cerro dos negros 
A caminhada implica um percurso com uma subida
de 150 m.
No livro de Ataíde
Oliveira, autor da monografia do concelho de Loulé (1989,
3ª edição – 1905, 1ª
edição), podemos encontrar a seguinte
descrição deste local:
“Existe ao N. e
muito próximo de Salir um alto Serro, a que chamam o Serro
dos Negros, quasi perpendicular, nu e escalvado
(…).
De onde derivou tal
denominação?
Será por este
serro, cujo cume se acha quasi sempre envolvido em densa nuvem,
pareça imprimir uma feição escura e negra?
Será porque em antigos tempos, como parece deduzir-se da
tradição, um rico proprietário, empregava o
seu serviço em colher lenha daquelle serro escravos negros?
Será porque para se lhe chegar ao cume só o trabalho
de um negro, frase adotada para se exprimir um grande
exforço?”
A verdade é que,
devido à subida de 150 metros, deve-se chamar cerro dos
negros porque vemo-nos "negros" para lá chegar ao cimo! Mas
não desesperem, a vista vale a pena!
Nota: a
denominação "Negros" não tem qualquer valor
discriminatório ou racista, refere-se apenas a uma
referência geográfica ou a uma expressão
idiomática.

The walk implies a trail with an ascent of 150
m.
In the book of
Ataíde Oliveira, author of the monograph of
Loulé’s council (1989, 3rd edition - 1905, 1st
edition), we can find the following description of this
place:
“It exists to the N.
and very next to Salir a mount, which is called Mount of the
Blacks, almost perpendicular, naked and without trees
(…).
From where derived such
denomination?
May it be because this
mount, whose top if always involved in dense clouds, seems a dark
and black face? May it be because in old times, as it seems to
deduce itself of the tradition, a rich proprietor, used the
services of black slaves in gathering firewood in that mount? May
it be because to arrive at the top the effort is like the work of a
black slave, adopted phrase to express great
effort”
The truth is that, due to
ascent of 150 meters, “Cerro” must be called “the
blacks” because it’s an intense effort to arrive there
at the top of a mountain! But they do not despair, the sight of the
valley is worth it!
NOTE:
The name of this cache or the reference of “black
slaves” has no intention to discriminate anyone. It’s
NOT a racist commentary, only an historical and geographic
reference
