The
Lummis Home

Hours: Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday noon to 4 p.m. However, often the driveway gate is
open on the north side of the property. I don't think they mind too
much it you just walk around.
In 1884, Charles Lummis left his
home in Ohio and walked to Los Angeles. Along the way, he wrote
articles about his experiences and sent them to his friend,
Harrison Gray Otis, the owner of the 4-page Los Angeles Times. When
Lummis arrived, Otis hired him to be the first city editor of the
Times.
Lummis built a home next the the
Arroyo Seco. Come check out this interesting piece of local
history. The home is now a museum and is filled with interesting
artifacts. The 2-acre grounds have been developed as a
water-conserving garden.
Logging Requirements:
There is a plaque on the home, reportedly covering where Lummis'
ashes were placed, listing 4 things he wanted to be remembered for.
To attest to your visit, e-mail me one of the items listed on the
plaque. An actual visit to the location is
required.

Nothing tough about this cache
(except perhaps the limited access hours), just an interesting
local site. Enjoy the visit. If you have some time, the docents
will tell you more than you want to know.
