Geocache Description:

Cache is a nano near an old Bamberger Railroad bridge. Be smart, do not park on 500 West or 200 West. The parking coordinates will take you to a legal parking spot not far from the cache. You do not have to open anything to access the cache. It is not inside any sprinkler-related equipment!

Time on the B.E.R.R. from Salt Lake City to Bountiful Depot, 17 minutes.

The 1890s were a decade when people were determined to have fun,and Utah was no exception. Resorts sprang up all over the state, lining the pockets of savvy businessmen and entrepreneurs. Bountiful, too, had amusements to tempt pleasure seekers from Salt Lake City. The Opera House on Main Street hosted dramas, dances, debates and even basketball while Hales Hall on 2nd West was home to plays, vaudeville acts, a soda fountain and later, roller skating. While many people rode his trains from Salt Lake City to attend these events, Simon Bamberger wanted more.

In 1894, Bamberger created Eden Park, a three acre "pleasure garden" only steps away from the Stoker station, which was re-named Eden Park on the railroad's timetables. Bamberger's Eden Park had a dancing pavilion, a bowery, a ball park, plenty of shade and its very own well of cool, refreshing water. The Park hosted balls and "grand masquerades" and Bamberger put on special trains from Salt Lake City to handle the crowds. Admission to the park was included in a round trip ticket on the Bamberger; walk-ins had to pay 25 to 50 cents, depending on the event.

Eden Park's popularity was short-lived. When Bamberger opened his wildly popular Lagoon resort the very next summer, attendance dropped at other entertainment venues throughout the county, causing many of them - including Bamberger's own Eden Park - to close their doors.

The Bamberger ran on the west side of 200 West through most of Bountiful. The highway bridge to the southeast of the cache once carried the Bamberger over HWY 89. The Bountiful Depot was in front of the current Bountiful Power and Light offices. The building housing the offices was once a freight warehouse for the Bamberger, and has a nice plaque by the front door with more info.
