Geocache Description:

I think most of us have wondered at one time or another if their GPSr was acting funny. Well now is your opportunity to find out just how really "precise" that little technological handheld wonder really is.

No one can say that the coordinates are off on this one your are looking for a Benchmark Disk ( master GPS'r D set ).

A lot of cache hunters do not under stand what ACCURACY means to a reading on their GPS’r. I will attempt to explain.

When you standing at the spot where your GPS’r zero’s out at in feet to distance, some say where’s the cache its zeroing out right here, but wait here is the catch if your accuracy is at 25 feet and the person that took the coordinates and hid the cache was at 30 feet accuracy that could put the cache 55 feet off, are we starting to get the big picture here?

The more time you give the GPS’r to settle down ( get a good lock on multiple satellites ) The longer you stay in one place ( like setting it down ) not walking around the closer the end location will be.

Take you time here even though this is at a drive by location ( park in the parking lot near by not on the road ) Let you GPS’r set at the Benchmark for about 15 minutes and we think you will be surprised.

The cache is magnetic not far away.

This is also a way to get more people looking for Benchmarks as you may have guessed by now. There is a Witness Post near, but not as close as most to the benchmark see picture ( Witness Post )You can also check how accurate your elevation is, it should be at 735.7 feet Altitude, but if you GPS’r is at 9 feet accuracy then your elevation will also be off that much, remember that when re-calibrating your GPS’r if you chose to do so.

Please log the benchmark as a find while you are here. It is listed on the benchmark area of the geocaching.com site the PIN # is FD1646
