This is a round, metal cookie tin, camoflaged with several colors of rust-resistant paint, including a clear coat on the inside; let's see if this helps keep these metal cans from rusting-out. It's hidden a short distance up from the La Jolla Canyon terminus of the Backbone Trail; it's maybe a mile RT from the parking area. There is a nice view of the ocean and the beach here (and you can't hear the traffic!), as well as nice views of the canyons of the western half of Point Mugu State Park. There are a number of other caches within a couple of hours' hike from here: some on flattish ground and some at elevation. Pretty-much the entire three-mile-or-so length of the Ray Miller Trail, all the way to the Overlook Trail, has caches now

You can park on PCH for free, but that will more than double the hike. For $8 ($7 for seniors), you can park in the lot, which has some shade and more security. It's still cheaper parking than at Disneyland, and it's an easy way to help keep the park looking decent.

As we were hiking to the hiding spot, a number of people were jogging down from the Overlook Trail, in groups of 2s and 3s and a few singletons. Sharon asked one of them if they were part of a running club, and the woman said that they were, then said, "Actually, we're a drinking club with a running problem." We got a big chuckle out of that

No one on the trail on this nice cool day. Little hard for me to spot this one too -- nice camo job.

BTW, parking at La Jolla is now $8 ($7 for seniors), which I was glad to pay, viewing it as support for the park service & rangers during this state budget mess. Saved me a bit of walking too.

After The Beginning, then It Starts, right? Hey, who had the bright idea of quoting the name? Cachemate on my PDA doesn't exclude the quotes when alphabetizing, so it took me a few minutes to find when I wanted to make notes.

It was around here that I noticed that I'd forgotten my hat. Now, at this point I should have either gone back to the car to get it, or smeared sun block on my head despite the mess it would make. I got my first sunburn on my scalp ten years ago, and my natural cover has waned considerably since then. Apparently that decade hasn't improved my intelligence, as I took neither of the appropriate actions. By the evening my enlarging forehead looked like Rudolph's nose. It was even more apparent because I'd worn a sweat band most of the day, so I had a red nose and bright red upper forehead with a strip of unburned skin in between. I may have to tell people I'm wearing a red cap.

Got a little help from TOHiker, though it was an easy find and I'd have located it quickly. Dropped a TB, replaced the pen, and headed up to Ocean Pacific.

OMG. I forgot to log some of my caches while hiking with VCTrails. Sorry for the late log. TFTC!

I was out with some others, hiking a loop and looking for geocaches along the way. This was the end for us, except for the micro at the trailhead - TFTC!
